Nintendo has announced price hikes across the board for everything involving the first generation Switch. This includes all of its variants, as well as its Joy-Con controllers, as well as other products such as the Alarmo. The company first made the announcement late last week, stating that it may also affect Switch 2 accessories and amiibo.
With the change taking effect over the weekend, The Verge now reports that the original Nintendo Switch has gone from US$299.99 (~RM1,271) to US$339.99 (~RM1,441). The OLED model has gone from US$349.99 (~RM1,483) to US$399.99 (~RM1,695), while the Lite went from US$199.99 (~RM847) to US$229.99 (~RM974). The report also notes that the Alarmo and Switch 1 Joy-Con controllers have both gone up by US$10 (~RM42).
At the time of the initial announcement, Nintendo said that the price changes are “based on market conditions”. While not explicitly mentioned, this is possibly due to new 20% tariffs being applied to Vietnam. The Japanese games company had previously moved production from China to Vietnam to avoid tariffs.
At the time of writing, it looks like these price changes have not affected the local market. Or at least, not yet, and it’s unclear if it will eventually affect us. We’ve reached out to an industry contact, and will let you know if we learn anything new.
