Google has rolled out Video Overviews to its AI-powered research assistant, NotebookLM. This new feature helps transform dense materials like notes, PDFs, and images into visual presentations to aid understanding.
Originally announced during Google I/O in May, Video Overviews builds on NotebookLM’s existing Audio Overviews by offering a more visual way to break down complex content. Rather than summarising material through a generated podcast, the feature pulls relevant visuals, diagrams, quotes, and data points directly from user-uploaded documents to create animated explainers.

According to Google, the feature is particularly suited for making abstract topics more accessible, explaining data trends, and illustrating step-by-step processes. Users can customise the generated content by specifying what topics to focus on, defining learning objectives, and describing the intended audience.
The introduction of Video Overviews reflects Google’s continued effort to make NotebookLM a more versatile tool. The feature is now available to all users in English, with support for additional languages expected soon.
