According to the Digital Ministry, the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) is finalising Malaysia’s Cyber Security Strategy (MCSS) 2025–2030. This strategy serves as a continuation of MCSS 2020–2024 and will involve three key stakeholders, namely the government, businesses, and the community.
In addition to this, the MCSS will also consider emerging technologies like artificial intelligence as well as all related cybersecurity threats to ensure the nation’s digital ecosystem remains comprehensively protected. This comes as a response to concerns raised by Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein (BN-Sembrong) regarding transparency when training AI systems like DeepSeek and the use of Huawei chips.

The ministry is also looking to form an AI security committee for reviewing technical aspects. The committee will be tasked with assessing the technology to ensure it complies with security and ethical standards. Of course, this also includes foreign technology.
The committee will comprise experts from multiple fields in both the public and private sectors. The ministry explained that this is to strengthen governance and make sure that the development and implementation of AI in the country stays safe, responsible, and in line with national principles.

Meanwhile, the Digital Ministry provided an update on the progress of 5G coverage. As of 30 June 2025, Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) has developed the network to achieve 82.4% coverage in populated locations, with a total of 7,489 5G sites. The ministry also added that Malaysia’s 5G penetration rate has reached 80.4%.
