One of the struggles with using a DualSense controller was using it wirelessly with multiple devices. If you’ve paired it with a PS5 and want to use it with your PC, you’ll have to repeat the pairing process with the console the next time you use it. PlayStation is finally changing this, but this comes via a system update beta preview for the PS5, for some reason.
Either way, when it rolls out, you can connect up to four devices, which the DualSense registers almost like profiles. Each is tied to a face button, with number one tied to the triangle button and going clockwise from there. To register a device to a slot, you hold the PS button and the button in question for five seconds while the controller is off. The light bar and indicator light will then flash twice which is your cue to pair your device of choice.
To change between them, you hold the PS button and the associated face button simultaneously for three or so seconds. The light bar and indicator light will blink a number of times corresponding to the profile slot number. All of this also applies to the DualSense Edge, which has separate profiles for customised inputs.
As mentioned, this is being rolled out with a new PS5 system update beta preview, not a general release. PlayStation says that it plans “to release the update globally in the coming months”, but no specifics beyond that. The DualShock 4 also suffers from this lack of multi-device pairing, but it looks like that’s not changing any time soon.
