BMW Group Malaysia today unveiled the latest variant of the X5 line-up, the BMW X5 xDrive40i M Sport. This variant is a locally assembled model (CKD) and features a mild hybrid system.
Before we delve further into the powertrain, let’s take a look at the design of the car, which, according to the automaker, has received some modifications. At the front, the SUV retains the iconic kidney grille, which has now been given a three-dimensional effect. This is paired with redesigned high-beam assistant-enhanced Adaptive LED headlights that have been slimmed down by 35mm. Additionally, it features an X-shaped daytime running light.
At the rear, it comes with slender, three-dimensional taillights with a stylised X design and an updated rear apron that adds to its sporty aesthetic. Finally, the 21-inch M light alloy wheels complete the look of the car.
Inside, the cockpit features a curved display integrating a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display. Furthermore, the redesigned centre console now comes with more touch-sensitive function keys, and all of this is powered by BMW Operating System 8.5. This operating system supports many modes of operation, including the iDrive Controller, voice commands, touch input, and the optional Gesture Control.
Other features in the interior include sports seats with electric adjustment and memory function. The cabin is covered with “Sensafin” upholstery and comes with an M leather steering wheel. Additionally, the interior is enhanced with a Harman Kardon surround sound system, Comfort Access System, alarm system, Travel and Comfort System, 4-zone automatic air conditioning, and a panoramic glass roof.
Now coming to the powertrain: it features a 3-litre inline 6 TwinPower Turbo engine paired with a 48V mild hybrid system. Together, the new X5 produces 280kW and 540Nm of torque. All of this power is managed by an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system, which allows the SUV to complete the century sprint in 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 250km/h.
Other performance aspects include Dynamic Damper Control and the self-levelling two-axle air suspension, which lowers the body by 20 millimetres in Sport mode at speeds of 138km/h. The axle system can also raise the car by 40 millimetres when off-roading.
In terms of safety, the X5 SUV is equipped with BMW driver assistance systems as standard, which include Driving Assistant Professional and Parking Assistant Professional. Additionally, the car comes with BMW Digital Key Plus as standard, along with a standard smartphone digital key.
Finally, coming to the price of the car—it is offered at a recommended retail price (RRP) of RM469,800. The car comes with a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty, along with 5 years / 100,000km of service coverage. It also includes a 6-year unlimited mileage warranty for the battery and an 8-year high-voltage battery warranty as well.
