Microsoft previously announced that support for the Microsoft 365 subscription, and the Office tools with it, will continue for Windows 10 until 2028. That being the case, users on said OS version will have already been using tools that are two years out of date by then. This is because the company has announced that it would stop adding new Office app features to the service starting next year.
More specifically, the company said that it will stop pushing out new features on Windows 10 starting August 2026. This starts with Microsoft 365 Current Channel (Personal and Family) users, followed by Monthly Enterprise Channel users on 13 October. Semi-annual Enterprise Channel users see updates getting cut off the last, beginning 12 January 2027. Finally, as mentioned above, once October 2028 hits, even security updates get halted.
It’s worth noting though at this point that the initial cutoff point for Microsoft 365 support on Windows 10 was supposed to be October of this year. The company quietly announced its extension in a support article for IT admins, but did not mention the cutting off of features at the time.
All of this coincides with the renewed effort to push users to upgrade to Windows 11. Or, alternatively, pay the company a fee for extended security support. Though this doesn’t solve the issue of losing access to new features in your productivity suite subscription.
