The CIMB OCTO app has completely taken over the previous Clicks app as the bank’s go-to mobile app. It provides just about anything you’d expect from a banking app, especially if you have credit cards issued by the bank. For whatever reason, the bank has not extended the same convenience to debit card users, but that’s about to change soon.
Listed as part of its list of features that are coming soon is an item described as “debit card control”. Not much to go on in terms of what this actually does, but the bank’s website shows a list of features related to credit cards that sound like they’d fit the description of control. The list includes using the CIMB OCTO app to activate cards, reset their PIN, and freeze or unfreeze said card. Users can also enable or disable contactless payment as well as overseas spending and withdrawal.

Probably worth mentioning is that the CIMB OCTO page on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store lists conflicting information on this feature’s availability. On one hand, the app description lists “Debit / Credit Card control” as something you can already do with the app. But on the other, the “What’s new” section lists “Debit Card Control” as “Coming Soon” instead.
Also listed in the list of features coming soon is eKYC, and the ability to manage your ASNB or Unit Trust investments. Then there are two related to DuitNow – one is the ability to send DuitNow Request, the other is to set up DuitNow AutoDebit payments. Though at the time of writing, no date has been specified as to when these will roll out.
