While the Apple Vision Pro was a product that didn’t get the most glowing of public opinion, the bitten fruit company is invested enough for a sequel. We’ve heard a number of rumours about such a thing, such as being equipped with an M5 chip. But perhaps that may have been a tad too optimistic, as more recent reporting points towards it getting the M4 chip instead.
This comes via Bloomberg, which also says that Apple is testing versions of the headset with more cores in its neural engine. For context, the current Vision Pro has 16 cores. Beyond the silicon, better head straps are also being worked on to reduce neck strain and head pain, to address one of the primary criticisms of the first generation device.

All that being said, there’s no mention of when this new device will be ready for market. Apple is working on visionOS 26 for mixed reality headsets, but it could simply be for the existing Vision Pro rather than an other headset. Prior reporting did pin it within 2025, though it’s unclear if that’s still accurate.
These changes are also noted to be a stepping stone for a redesigned model that’s slated on 2027 instead which “significantly reduced the weight of the headset”. This half-generational upgrade is noted as a way to keep the company relevant until then, though there’s also the AR glasses to fill in said gap.
