Alongside iOS 26, Apple also announced iPadOS 26 during WWDC 2025, and as usual, most of the things that apply to the smartphone operating system also applies to the one for the tablet. Of course, it does get some exclusive features to make use of its larger screen, and this time around, it’s a new windowing system for better multitasking.
As Apple says it with iPadOS 26, you’ll be able to more “fluidly resize app windows, place them exactly where you want, and open even more windows at once”. The ability to do so will appear as a “grab handle” at the lower right corner of the screen. You even get the window management buttons that you normally only see on macOS, and work the same way.

If you’ve used this feature for apps before, they will appear in the same size and position as you left them. You can also flick them to the edges of the screen, which is the equivalent of pressing the Windows key and then an arrow on a Windows PC. Also like the Microsoft OS, there’s also a grabber in between windows that allow you to resize multiples of them at the same time. Then there’s what the company calls Exposé, which shows all open windows.
Probably the best news here is that these multitasking features are coming to iPad models of all sizes, including the iPad mini. But as with most of the announcements today, iPadOS 26 will only be available in autumn.
