You’ve heard of headphones with hybrid drivers – using two types of drivers to deliver sound – but have you heard of “tribrid” drivers? That’s essentially what the Aviot WA-J1 is, which the brand also claims is the first of its kind in the world.

So what exactly makes up the “tribrid” drivers of the Aviot WA-J1? The first of the lot are piezo drivers which, according to TechRadar, handles the high frequencies. Then you have the more common planar and dynamic drivers that work together on the mids and lows.

There’s also 3D spatial audio, which you can adjust via one of the dials on the Aviot WA-J1. Then there’s a low-latency mode for gamers, as well as multi-point support for two devices to be connected at a time. To that end, it keeps the 3.5mm audio jack that’s getting increasingly rare, even for wireless headphones.

Supported audio tech include LDAC as well as LC3 via Bluetooth LE, the latter of which will be added via a future update. There’s also adaptive noise cancelling and a transparency mode as you’d expect from a modern pair of headphones. Closing things out is a battery life of up to an impressive 140 hours, though it’s unclear if this is achievable with ANC on. Charging time is pretty snappy too, with 10 minutes claimed to be giving you 15 hours of playback, and going from empty to full takes about three hours.

The Aviot WA-J1 is listed as costing JPY39,600 (~RM1,171), with the report noting that it will go on sale in Japan in July. The report says that it will be available to ship worldwide, but at the time of writing, the headphones are listed on its Japanese site, but not on its English site.
