Taobao has officially announced the rollout of a Bahasa Malaysia interface on its mobile app. Available starting from today, users can head into the language settings of the app and change it to “Bahasa Melayu”, with the in-app translation covering even the product reviews.
Last year, Malaysia and Singapore became the first markets in the world to be included in the English beta interface of Taobao. Just like the English version, the translation for the Bahasa Malaysia interface was developed with help from AI as part of the e-commerce platform’s journey to increase localisation. This means that for Malaysian users, Taobao is now available in three languages, a huge leap forward considering that up until last year, it was only available in Chinese globally.
Additionally, the online shopping giant has added a new AI-powered image search feature, which lets users snap or upload a photo to search for similar items. In case you are not familiar, this is a feature that is also present in its competitors such as Shopee, Lazada, Aliexpress, and Temu.
In conjunction with the launch of the Bahasa Malaysia interface, Taobao is also kicking off its 618
Mid-Year Sale, which runs from 28 May until 20 June 2025. The sale includes free sea shipping for order over CNY199 (~RM116), discount vouchers, daily flash sales, and a chance to win tickets to Seoul with a minimum spend of RM300 using an RHB credit or debit card.
