CIMB has announced that its CIMB Octo mobile banking app will soon require newer operating systems to function. Starting 25 June 2025, the app will only be compatible with devices running Android 10 or iOS 15 and above. The bank cites enhanced security and improved app performance as key reasons for the change.
At present, CIMB Octo still supports older systems, including Android 9 and iOS 12. However, users relying on these older platforms are advised to update their devices before the June deadline to avoid disruption to their banking services.

This update comes on the heels of other recent shifts in CIMB’s digital offerings. In April, the bank formally retired its legacy CIMB Clicks app. That move coincided with the rollout of SecureTAC, which has replaced SMS-based one-time passwords (OTP) as the default authentication method for transactions. Most recently, CIMB also announced that it will cease sending Post Transaction Alerts (PTA) via SMS beginning 17 May, shifting entirely to push notifications through its Octo app.
On a related note, Maybank had also raised the minimum OS requirements for its MAE app back in February this year. Currently, the bank’s mobile application only supports devices running Android 9 or iOS 14 and above.
