Spotify announced that it is rolling out an update that benefits free and paying users alike. Naturally the latter category will be getting more additions, but free users are by no means getting the short end of the stick here, as the update essentially brings with it better playlist management.
For its app, Spotify says that “you’ll find easy access to Add, Sort, and Edit” at the top of your playlists, allowing you to manage them more easily. These are now immediately above the songs in your playlist, rather than being hidden away in the kebab menu. The company also says that there’s a new Create button (+) that’s supposed to be on the bottom-right side of the app for more easily create playlists and otherwise collaborate with friends, but we don’t yet see this on our version of the app.
For Spotify Premium users, in addition to the above, you also get new features within your Queue, which is the three lines you see at the bottom right on your Now Playing page. From here, you can now toggle options like Shuffle, Smart Shuffle, Repeat and Sleep Timer. One feature that the company says is part of the rollout but has yet to become available to us is the ability to hide a song from a playlist across all devices.
The other, which Spotify says is still being tested and arguably the more interesting one of the bunch, is a 30-day Snooze. This is for songs that you really love, but are at the verge of being sick of. The company says that this may even roll out to all users in the future.
Seeing as we’re getting mixed results as to which of these new features we’re seeing ourselves, don’t be surprised if some of these are not yet accessible to you. While Spotify says that these are bring gradually rolled out, it may take awhile for the full list of changes to get to everyone.
