Google is building a new hyperscale data centre in Port Dickson as part of its US$2 billion investment in Malaysia’s digital infrastructure. The project will be delivered in partnership with Malaysian engineering firm Gamuda Bhd, through its subsidiary Gamuda DC Infrastructure Sdn Bhd.

As you may recall, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amidudin Harun revealed last month that two data centre projects are currently in the works in the state. One of which is a green data centre in Nilai, while the other is an AI technology data centre located in Springhill, Port Dickson. With this recent development, it is now confirmed that Google is involved with the latter.

According to regulatory filings, Google’s Malaysian affiliate Pearl Computing Malaysia Sdn Bhd has appointed Gamuda to carry out RM1.01 billion worth of development works for the Port Dickson data centre, located around 90 kilometres south of Kuala Lumpur. The scope includes civil infrastructure, utility connections, and major water infrastructure critical for cooling operations.

A key feature of the project is a new water treatment plant capable of processing 65 million litres per day, along with an off-river storage facility aimed at ensuring a steady water supply and mitigating pollution risks. The treatment plant is targeted for completion by the second quarter of 2027, while the storage facility is expected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2028.

Pearl Computing has also acquired 389 acres of land from Gamuda for RM455.23 million to host the data centre complex. The site will be prepared under the firm’s integrated “top-to-toe” infrastructure model, which the company says shortens timelines, improves build quality, and reduces overall risk for hyperscale clients.

This is the second major contract awarded by Google to Gamuda. In May 2024, Gamuda was appointed to handle RM1.7 billion in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works for another data centre at Elmina Business Park in Selangor.
