CelcomDigi has announced a new privacy feature called PrivateSIM. It offers users a second phone number that they can use for their digital activities, safeguarding their personal number as they would not need to use it.
The PrivateSIM feature is offered as an add-on eSIM to customers who are on the Postpaid 5G 80 plan and above, priced at RM10/month. The eSIM is only available for principal line holders and requires that you have at least one supplementary line slot open. If you have no slots left, you may need to either open up a second principal line or terminate one of your supplementary lines.

The telco says that the feature is ideal for One-Time Passwords (OTPs) for banks and e-wallets, social media accounts, newsletter signups, and free trials and other temporary registrations, allowing you to avoid getting spam to your main number.
As it is only meant for signups and OTPs, PrivateSIM only comes with a 1GB monthly data quota, but you can add on an additional 500MB with a seven-day validity for RM5 if you need more. A representative has confirmed with us that you can have several active PrivateSIM numbers simultaneously, meaning that you can subscribe to a maximum of six at once.
While it is common practice for people to purchase cheap prepaid SIM cards to use as secondary lines to avoid giving out their personal numbers, this feature seems to streamline that practice and packages it into a convenient eSIM form. The plan can be purchased through the company’s online store.
