Insta360 has announced the X5, which is touted as its “the smartest, toughest 360-degree camera ever made.” The new 360-degree camera is promised to provide improved image quality and performance over its predecessor, thanks to larger Type 1/1.28 image sensors as well as faster AI processors.
While the Insta360 X5 maintains 8Kp30 360-degree video recording as before, its larger image sensors and new Triple AI Chip system offers improved light capture, noise reduction and image processing, especially in low-light conditions. A dedicated PureVideo mode uses AI-driven optimisation for clearer night footage, though it’s limited to 30fps.

Video options include 5.7Kp60, 5.7Kp30 and 4Kp120 recording, while single-lens video reaches up to 4Kp60. On the other hand, still photo capabilities reach up to 72 megapixels, with support for RAW DNG capture. Its Active HDR feature has also been upgraded to support 5.7Kp60 recording.
A major hardware highlight is the X5’s replaceable lens system, allowing users to swap out damaged ones on-site. Despite which, its new lenses are made of ultra-durable glass that’s designed to withstand impacts, so hopefully a replacement won’t be necessary.
Meanwhile, the camera itself is waterproof to 49 feet (15 metres) without a case and offers a longer 3-hour battery life, while fast charging support enables 80% top up in just 20 minutes via USB-C. A magnetic mounting system and built-in wind guard round out the physical upgrades.

The X5 also introduces InstaFrame mode, which produces both a ready-to-share flat video and a full 360-degree file simultaneously. Editing is handled through the updated Insta360 mobile app or Insta360 Studio desktop app, which now features enhanced UI, AI templates, a one-tap Dewarp function and quick export options.
In Malaysia, the new Insta360 X5 is priced at RM2,499. It is available now via the brand’s official Shopee store, as well as its authorised distributors nationwide.
