NVIDIA has shared via blogpost that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 features a custom NVIDIA processor and GPU. According to the company, the new chip enables DLSS support and has dedicated RT cores that deliver real-time ray tracing.
NVIDIA states that its chip enables AI-powered Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) support on the new Nintendo Switch 2 console, which allows for a boost in the gaming experience with sharper visuals. However, the exact DLSS version that the console will support was not specified, and the company did not state if there will be any frame generation capabilities.
The Nintendo Switch 2 also features NVIDIA’s RT Cores which deliver real-time ray tracing to significantly enhance in-game realism. It will also have Tensor cores that will allow AI-powered face tracking and background removal during video chats, while boosting AI-powered graphics tech like DLSS and improving efficiency.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is capable of up to 4K gaming in TV mode, and up to 120 frames per second at 1080p during the handheld mode. Its variable refresh rate during the latter mode will be powered by NVIDIA’s G-Sync technology. All of these add up to the claim that the upcoming console will have “10x the graphics performance” of its predecessor. The console is expected to be released in SEA sometime between July and September.
