Last week, Xiaomi officially unveiled its latest budget smartphone, the Redmi A5, in Indonesia. The company is expected to release the phone in Malaysia soon, given its recent SIRIM listing, but no local launch date has been announced yet.
Ahead of this, however, a local retailer has already put up the upcoming affordable device up for sale, revealing its prices and configurations. According to MMG Distribution, the Redmi A5 will be offered in 3GB+64GB and 4GB+128GB configurations, with price tags of RM299 and RM349 respectively. Notably, this is a lot cheaper than its predecessor.
To recap its specs, the Redmi A5 is fitted with a 6.88-inch 720p LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 450 nits. Inside, the entry-level smartphone runs on a Unisoc T7250 chipset with support for 4G, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.2. Additionally, it gets a headphone jack and a side-mounted fingerprint reader.
The price tag is packaged with a basic camera setup made up of a 32MP main lens, a depth sensor, and an 8MP selfie shooter. Backing the A5 is a 5,200mAh battery with support for 15W charging. Last but not least, on the software side, it ships with Android 15 (Go Edition).
