Discord is introducing Video Quests ads to its mobile platform. These ads will be from third-parties, and will be featured in the form of a video that users can watch to earn rewards and in-game items. The mobile ads are set to launch in June 2025, after having been rolled out to PC and consoles last year.
Peter Sellis, Discord’s product leader, claims that the brand’s mission is to “create the most authentic, player-centric advertising platform in the galaxy”. In what seems to be an effort to uphold this, the ads will appear at the bottom of the screen, with the video only playing if the user chooses to accept it. Once accepted, however, the videos are non-skippable.

While the brand was initially known for being an ad-free platform, it launched its ad format, Quests, a year ago, which has since been expanded to Video Quests. The ads also come in a playable form, which requires users to play a game to unlock rewards.
Discord users on other platforms are able to hide in-app promotions for specific Quests, or choose not to receive personalised promotions. Both of these options will be made available to mobile users. As Mobile Quests ads have already been tested in a limited beta, the current rollout might be making it more widely available.
