Along with its new Galaxy A series that were recently launched, Samsung also introduced a new suite of artificial intelligence features, officially known as Awesome Intelligence. This is designed exclusively for the brand’s mid-range smartphones, namely the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36. Exempted from this is the Galaxy A26 model that was introduced together with the two.
So why the different branding? As mentioned earlier, Awesome Intelligence is intended for Samsung’s mid-range devices, which utilises less powerful chipsets when compared to those featured on its flagships. Due to this, only a select number of Galaxy AI tools make it over, though these are limited to image and video editing. However, note that some features are only available on the Galaxy A56 model.

Here’s breakdown of what AI features that are offered by Awesome Intelligence:
- Circle to Search: Allows users to circle, tap, or scribble on the screen to search for information instantly. It can also identify songs playing nearby.
- Object Eraser: AI tool that removes unwanted objects, shadows, and reflections from photos.
- Custom Photo Filters: AI-powered colour and style extraction from existing images to create personalised filters.
- Best Face (Exclusive to Galaxy A56): AI-powered feature that selects and combines the best expressions from up to five people in a motion photo for optimal group shots.
- Auto Trim (Exclusive to Galaxy A56): This feature automatically edits your videos by identifying and removing unnecessary segments, creating concise and engaging clips without manual editing.
- Instant Slow-Mo (Exclusive to Galaxy A56): Leveraging AI technology, this feature allows you to apply smooth slow-motion effects to any part of your videos with a single tap, enhancing your footage effortlessly.
Unfortunately, Galaxy AI features such as Live Translate, Now Brief & Now Bar, Generative Edit, Note Assist and many others are not available. While Google’s Circle to Search is offered on both the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36, a majority of its Gemini features remain exclusive to Samsung’s flagship models. Again, reason being is likely because the chipsets equipped on the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 lack the NPU performance necessary to run generative AI functions.
In short, Awesome Intelligence caters to the more lifestyle-centric audience which the Galaxy A series is intended for. The Galaxy AI suite is more versatile in terms of offerings, but you’ll need to own Samsung’s more recent Galaxy S, Galaxy Z and Tab S devices in order to access it. Which is a shame, really, as many would appreciate the generative AI tools mentioned earlier, especially those who find the brand’s high-end models out of reach.
Recapping our earlier report, the new Samsung Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 will go on sale in Malaysia on 18 March 2025, with prices starting from RM1,999 and RM1,499 respectively. Meanwhile, the Galaxy A26 begins at RM1,199 and will also be released at the same time.
