Last year, reports began to surface that Google would release “Pixie”, its smart assistant on the Pixel 9 last year but that didn’t happen. Now, recent rumours suggest that the launch is imminent: it will be renamed the Pixel Sense assistant and will launch alongside the Pixel 10 series later this year.
Google describes the app as providing “the most personalised experience based on the things you do on your Pixel”. As per the original rumours, Pixel Sense will be able to gather and use information from other apps, including Gmail, Google Docs, and Chrome, among other apps.
Additionally, Pixel Sense will be able to process different media files, including texts, images, AI-generated content, and associated metadata. While working independently, Google says that it will provide personalised suggestions based on the apps we use, and complete tasks faster while adapting to our interests. For example, it will suggest personal data when required, complete tasks based on our device usage, and evolve alongside our interests.
The feature will reportedly run fully on-device, as Google reports that it will run both online and offline. Additionally, data is said to remain strictly visible to the user alone, a hint that the app could rely on Gemini Nano.
