Sigma has announced the BF, a compact full-frame interchangeable lens camera featuring a 24.6MP sensor and L-Mount lens compatibility. The company describes its design as “radically simple,” incorporating only three buttons, a dial, and a shutter release.
The new camera measures at 129.5 x 73.7 x 35.6 mm and weighs 388 grams. While still compact, it is actually slightly larger and heavier than Sigma’s fp model from 2019. The BF is touted to feature a “true unibody” design, making it the first camera to be carved from a single block of aluminium, a process taking seven hours. This results in a highly rigid body that maintains a balanced weight with any attached lens.
The Sigma BF is built to emphasise the “joy of photography” by eliminating distractions, featuring a user interface that’s designed to be clear and streamlined, differing significantly from other modern cameras. Primary photographic settings appear on the 2.1 m-dot rear display, while secondary options reside in an optional menu. A status monitor displays active settings separately, keeping the live view interface uncluttered.
The camera is also the first mirrorless camera to feature haptic feedback on its dial and key buttons. Netizens have amusingly pointed out that if you ever wondered what an Apple-designed camera might look like, the BF would be the closest thing to it.
In terms of specs, the camera’s onboard 24.6MP sensor has a native ISO range of 100 to 102,400, expandable down to ISO 6. It employs a hybrid autofocus system, combining phase detection and contrast detection with advanced algorithms for fast and accurate subject recognition, including people, dogs, and cats. On the video front, the Sigma BF can capture footage at up to 6K resolution and supports L-Log recording in H.264 and H.265 formats. It achieves up to 29.97 fps in 6K and 4K, and 119.88 fps in Full HD 1080p.

The BF includes 13 color modes, such as Standard, Rich, Calm, Powder Blue, Warm Gold, and Cinema, offering creative flexibility. Unlike conventional cameras, it features built-in digital storage via a 230GB SSD, while data transfer is handled via USB-C.
The Sigma BF is available in black or silver and, according to PetaPixel, is set to launch in April 2025 at a retail price of US$1,999 (~RM8,821) for body only. For what it is worth, Sigma Malaysia announced the same release window via its official Facebook page, which may suggest that the camera may be coming to the local market as well.
