Have you noticed that your mobile network’s signal strength fluctuating within buildings, especially when you go from floor to floor? Network analysis company Ookla has taken the question to the extreme, and conducted research on the indoor coverage of 5G networks across the world’s iconic skyscrapers. And it’s via this report that we find out that the Petronas Twin Towers has inconsistent coverage on this front.
To start, the report shows the indoor experience with 5G networks by measuring the average Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP). The scoring system though could take some getting used to, as an RSRP value that’s over -90 dBm is considered great, while one between -90 dBm and -100 dBm is considered good.
With all that in mind, the report noted that the Petronas Twin Towers had great average 5G network coverage closer to the ground, with its RSRP score of -80.44 dBm. But near the top, this drops to -92.67 dBm since the structure does not have dedicated indoor 5G coverage solutions, relying mostly on outdoor cell towers.
The report includes such details of eight other iconic skyscrapers round the world. They are the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the Shanghai Tower, Seoul’s Lotte World Tower, the One World Trade Centre and Empire State Building in New York, the Taipei 101, the Autograph Tower in Jakarta, and The Shard in London.
