Rumours have it that Apple could transition to QLC NAND storage, primarily due to its denser lithography. If that is true, we could be looking at iPhones with storage capacities of as much as 2TB.

At current, the highest storage capacity on any phone, let alone the iPhone, is 1TB. However, talks with potential researchers and companies suggest that it could increase in capacity within the future.  The company is focusing on developing a denser storage system that allows more data to be stored within the iPhone’s current physical dimensions. The main outcome is the development of an advanced NAND flash memory. And with 3D NAND technology, it could potentially maintain a mass number of memory cells vertically, making the achievement even more critical.

Getting back to the main point, this means that Apple could roll out devices with significantly larger storage capacities, without increasing the iPhone’s physical size. As an extra added bonus, the fruit company could even stand to enhance software performance and battery life.

Of course, there are concerns about the cost and complexity of integrating higher-density storage into future devices, especially the performance and thermal management. And while this could potentially innovate the iPhone’s storage capabilities, achieving this goal will require overcoming some technical challenges in order to ensure it will be beneficial for users overall.
