Rumours have it that Intel is planning on launching the Core i9-14900KS early this year. More specifically, the top-specced CPU is reportedly set to launch on 14 March, exactly one week from today.
We’ve previously covered the alleged specifications of the 14900KS. Specs-wise, the CPU will feature the same 24-cores, 32-threads configuration as the 14900K. The main difference between the two is that the “KS” model runs at a higher boost clock of 6.2GHz. That’s 200MHz faster and more importantly, it’s also 25W more power hungry, requiring a TDP of 150W.
As a quick primer, Intel CPUs with the “KS” suffix are processors that are typically made from binned chips. These chips are silicon that have been deemed to have the best yield in terms of performance and as such, are normally reserved to make these specially tweaked CPUs and market them to consumers.
While the 14900KS is merely a minor update to the 14900K, what sets it apart is its ability to run at 6.2GHz on two P-Cores instead of one. However, we have been unable to confirm if this is still the case and that Intel still practices this, given that the chipmaker didn’t pass us the 13900KS in the last round.
Like all Raptor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs, the 14900KS is an LGA1700 chipset CPU and as a direct result, it should fit with your current Z790 motherboard. At the time of writing, no official pricing has been announced by Intel for the CPU but suffice to say, it’s not going to be cheap.
