U Mobile And CelcomDigi Announces Partnership To Enhance Mobile Connectivity In Malaysia

A three-party collaboration between the two companies and telecommunications provider ZTE was announced as well.

U Mobile and CelcomDigi have recently signed a partnership agreement, with the aim to deliver enhanced mobile connectivity to users and further strengthen the 4G network coverage in Malaysia. With this, both telcos will share a of 100 Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) sites across the country, with each party committing to 50 sites.

The agreement was signed by U Mobile CEO Wong Heang Tuck and CelcomDigi CEO Datuk Idham Nawawi at the Malaysian Pavilion during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona. The signing was also witnessed by the minister of communications Fahmi Fadzil.

In a statement, Wong viewed the partnership between U Mobile and CelcomDigi as a positive step toward enhancing customer experience by optimising spectrum usage and network capacity. He also noted that the sharing of MOCN sites will efficiently improve customer experience by reducing operational costs such as deployment, maintenance, and energy costs.

Meanwhile, Idham Nawawi expressed enthusiasm in the enhancement of 4G LTE coverage and connectivity across Malaysia through this initiative. “Our organisations will also benefit from efficient network operations, allowing us to invest in other areas to improve our customers’ digital experiences,” he added.

The same event also saw U Mobile signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ZTE, allowing for both parties to tap into each other’s expertise and share knowledge on 5G and 5G Advanced technology via various use cases. In addition, a three-party collaboration between U Mobile, CelcomDigi and ZTE was announced as well, with the aim to demonstrate the capabilities of 5G Advanced (5G-A) technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital solutions for real-time live broadcasting.
