Apple Has No Plans To Produce Next-Gen 27-Inch iMacs

Users are recommended to hook up their Mac devices to its 27-inch Studio Display instead.

It’s been a while since Apple released an iMac with larger displays, such as the 27-inch variant and the 32-inch iMac Pro. Unfortunately, both of these have been officially discontinued, and it appears that the company intends to keep it that way.

In a response to a question posed by The Verge, Apple representative Starlayne Meza confirmed that the company has no plans to produce a 27-inch iMac featuring its first-party silicon. Instead, those seeking a larger display are encouraged to pair their Mac devices to its 27-inch Studio Display which debuted last year.

Of course, this isn’t the best solution, as it involves existing users forking out additional funds to purchase a separate monitor. But on the upside, you are getting a dual-monitor experience by going this route, which isn’t that bad of an idea especially when productivity is involved. Also keep in mind that you can still hook up any Mac device (including MacBooks) to a third-party monitor, so you needn’t worry about having to exclusively save up for Apple’s RM6,999 27-inch Studio Display.

Another takeaway from Apple’s statement is that there might not be any new iMac models featuring the more powerful Max or Ultra versions of its first-party silicon in the future. This is bad news for those who’ve been holding out for a high-performance Apple AIO, as the only few alternatives include going with the M3-equipped 24-inch iMac or switching over to the Mac Studio.

It is worth noting that the company specifically mentioned the 27-inch variant, which could indicate that other sizes are still in the cards. However, this is just wishful thinking for something that might not materialise in the end.
