TC Acoustic, the official distributor for Sonos in the region, announced that it will officially be bringing the Sonos Move 2 portable speaker to Malaysia. Initially hinted at a couple months prior, the new portable speaker both retains familiar features but also introduces some changes and updates over the original move that launched back in 2019.

In terms of design, the Move 2 is practically a carbon copy of the Move, at least in terms of size and weight. It still weighs in at nearly 3kg, so clipping this on your backpack is going to be less than ideal. That said, it also retains the IP56 dust and water resistance.

For controls, the Move 2 draws its inspiration from the recently launched Sonos Era 100 and Era 300, both of which we reviewed back earlier in the year. Those controls include the touch-based volume slider, along with improved touch-based functions.

Where the Move 2 majorly deviates from the 1st Gen Move is in its internals – where the original Move only had a mono output, this version of the speaker now has true stereo output, while retaining the woofer to handle the lows.

Battery life of the Move 2 is also a significant upgrade over its predecessor, with Sonos having doubled its endurance to 24 hours of continuous playback. Like the first Move, the battery is replaceable but is also rechargeable via the USB-C port in the back. Speaking of USB-C, that same port also supports line-in audio, provided you have the relevant adapter for it. The wireless charging base of the Move 2 has also been improved as well, featuring a detachable adapter.

As for connectivity, the Move 2 now supports Wi-Fi 6 but like the Era 100 and 300, it also supports Bluetooth, but only Bluetooth 5.0. On that note, Trueplay is also available on the speaker but unlike before, the tuning optimisation is now also available for Android devices.

The Sonos Move 2 will be available from 6 October onwards and will retail at RM2,799, while preorders for the portable speaker are open starting today. That said, if you’re interested in giving the speaker a listen first, you may do so at TC Acoustic’s showroom at Starhill Gallery. The portable speaker will be available in three colours: White, Black, and a new Olive colourway.
