Samsung has officially launched Galaxy Z Fold5. The 5th generation foldable smartphone was revealed during the Korean electronic giant’s Summer Unpacked event, mere moments ago.

As the fifth iteration of the Fold series, the Galaxy Z Fold5 is basically a refresh of its predecessor, the Fold4, but has also been updated with modern accouterments. To start, the internal hardware of the foldable comprises a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen2 SoC, made specifically for Samsung Galaxy devices, 12GB RAM, up to 1TB of internal storage, a 4,400mAh battery that also supports 25W fast wired and wireless charging.

On the outside, the aesthetics of the Galaxy Z Fold5 remain the same, more or less, but there is one important change to the phone: the new “waterdrop” hinge. After four generations of hinge designs, this new hinge allows the phone to be folded entirely and fully, eliminating the gap and space at the base of the folding point, which you can actually see in all previous iterations of the Z Fold series.

The foldable display of the Galaxy Z Fold5 still measures 7.6-inch, and even retains the same Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with QXGA+ resolution and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Additionally, it still retains the same 4MP under-display camera as its predecessor, which Samsung hides through onboard software when not in use.

When folded, the Galaxy Z Fold5 can still be used with the longer-than-average 6.2-inch HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X at the front. Like the main display, it also has an adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz and again, like its predecessor, it sports a 10MP selfie camera.

On the subject of cameras, the main camera of the Galaxy Z Fold5 retains a triple-camera module, comprising a 12MP ultrawide, 50MP wide-angle, and a 10MP telephoto, the latter providing the phone with up to a 3x optical zoom function.

Pricing for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 starts from RM6,799 for the 256GB model, RM7,299 for the 512GB model, and RM8,299 for the 1TB model. Colour options for the phone include Icy Blue, Phantom Black, and Cream, along with two online exclusive colours, Gray and Blue.

As for local availability, the Galaxy Z Fold5 will be available in Malaysia starting 18 August. If you’re interested in owning the phone, you can begin the process of preordering them via the official Samsung page that we’ve included here. On that note, be sure to use our exclusive referral code LYGALAXY when placing your pre-order for the Galaxy Z Fold5 to get RM400 off your purchase.
