Proton X Watch Now On Sale For RM1,499: Includes Remote Engine Start Capability For X50

First showcased to the public last year, the Proton X Watch wearable has since made its way to the market. Yes, when we said Proton, we really meant the national car maker.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon-based connected watch was developed by ACO Tech who was also responsible for the ATLAS infotainment system on selected Proton cars including the X50 and X70. Hence, the Proton X Watch was equipped with remote vehicle control features that can be used with both vehicles.

This included the ability to remotely control the door locks, windows, horn, lights, trunk release, and air-conditioning which are supported by all variants of X70 as well as the Premium and Flagship version of X50. Owners of the X Watch can also use it to remotely turn on the engine of the two X50 variants.

In addition to that, they can also monitor statistics of the vehicle such as the amount of fuel left in the tank, fuel consumption, and the next service mileage point directly from the watch. Aside from automotive features, the X Watch can also act as a fitness watch since it includes eight sports modes such as running, walking, cycling, and mountain climbing.

Furthermore, it has also been equipped with a heart rate and blood oxygen sensor. There is also the sedentary reminder feature that would alert the user and encourage them to stand up and move if the watch detects the user has been sitting down or being idle for far too long.

Together with stainless steel case and ceramic bezel, the X Watch is also equipped with a 1.3-inch AMOLED display that is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass DX+. ACO Tech also noted that the watch is covered with diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating as a defensive layer against scratches and fingerprints.

The X Watch’s arrival in the market seemed to take place rather quietly as we have no knowledge of any official announcement regarding its rollout. Even though it was given a rather quiet release without much fanfare, I still assumed that one can just waltz into any Proton showroom and purchase the watch.

As it turned out, that was not the case at all according to what I learned last week. After I got the wind of its availability in the market, I visited a Proton dealership located in SS14 Subang Jaya and I was told that it does not offer the watch to customers.

The staff then recommended me to the Proton Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Shah Alam which was not that far away from the SS14’s dealership. Once I arrived at the CoE, I straight away visited the Proton Lifestyle Boutique because I thought that would be the probable location to check out a watch.

But it turned out that my assumption was dead wrong as the staff members of the Lifestyle Boutique told me the X Watch is not available there. They were also not sure where or who I should refer to in order to find out more about the wearable.

Feeling slightly baffled, I turned to one of the staff at the COE’s showroom section who fortunately knew about X Watch and has made a couple of calls to pinpoint the correct department that was responsible for the wearable. I was then directed to the Proton Edar Centre of Service Excellence (CoSE) downstairs and over there, I finally got the answer that was looking for.

While the wearable was not on display at the CoSE during my visit, I was told by one of its staff that the official price tag of the Proton X Watch is RM1,499 and can be obtained in either black or white straps. Interestingly enough, the wearable has been categorized as a Proton Genuine Part for the X50 and X70 which pretty much explained why I was referred to the CoSE.

In other words, the Proton X Watch is not just mere merchandise but has been deemed as an official accessory for both SUVs. Since the watch is under the responsibility of Proton’s service arm, I was told that customers may have to place an order first if they want to get their hands on the device, just like any other spare parts or accessories that were not in stock at a Proton Service Centre.

Through several Facebook and TikTok pages that belonged to the X50 owners’ community and dealership staff, I have also learned that the connected watch may have been made available for purchase as early as December 2022. On the other hand, I have also stumbled upon several dealerships that offer the watch for free to customers that book X50 and X70 through them.

To sum it up, if you want to get your hands on the Proton X Watch for your X50 or X70, try to give a call to the nearest Proton Service Centre first to enquire about its availability before making your next move.
