Even though some feel that MySejahtera is no longer relevant as the mandatory check-in requirement that has been removed since 1 May 2022, this does not mean the app has reached the end of its life though. Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin recently revealed that MySejahtera will continue to be updated with new features and one of them has already been deployed to users.

Implemented through update version 1.1.19, the app’s COVID-19 Hotspot Tracker is now known as the Infection Disease Tracker. In addition to COVID, it now also tracks four more diseases including dengue, rabies and measles as well as Hand, Foot, & Mouth Disease (HFMD).

Do note that the area radius for each disease is different.

The way it functions remained more or less the same and yes, you have to allow MySejahtera to access your location services in order for the tracker to work.  To access it, just go to the app’s home screen and you should see the Infectious Disease Tracker as one of the shortcuts in the top section of the screen.

Once you open the tracker, you should be able to see the number of active cases for each of the five diseases in the bottom half part of the section. The data shown at the time you opened the section is relative to your current location which is why no map is being displayed as it will only appear if you search for other locations.

The map inside the Infectious Disease Tracker will only appear (shown in the picture on the right) if you search for a specific location.

According to the MySejahtera’s changelog on Apple App Store and Google Play, the update v1.1.9 also provides updates to Traveller Cards and Self-Help features. It also removes Close Contact from the Risk Status list which didn’t come as a surprise since individuals identified as close contacts no longer have to go through quarantine regardless of whether they have symptoms or otherwise.

Meanwhile, the update v1.1.9 has also been deployed to Huawei devices although the changelog for MySejahtera’s AppGallery listing only noted updates to the Self-Help features alongside minor bug fixes. As we don’t have any Huawei devices at the moment, we are not able to confirm if the Infectious Disease Tracker is already available for them but nevertheless, owners of Huawei devices out there may want to update the app to the latest version anyway.
