Samsung introduced several new features along with the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Watch 3; such as automatic fall detection, Smart Reply, and so on. The company has recently revealed that some of these features will soon be available for last year’s Galaxy Watch Active2 as well.

According to Samsung, an upcoming software update for the Watch Active2 will include Running Analysis, Fall Detection, improved communication features, and a more seamless watch-to-phone experience. As mentioned earlier, these were first introduced along with the new Galaxy Watch 3 model but excluding the model-exclusive features such as ECG and blood pressure monitoring.

Running Analysis is a standalone app that helps users improve their running performance and form, as well as to prevent injuries. It provides detailed analytical data gathered from running sessions such as asymmetry, regularity, stiffness, vertical oscillation, and ground contact time.

Also included in the update is a VO2 max indicator for users to keep track of the amount of oxygen utilised during intense exercise, which is useful for improving endurance. And in the event falls or injuries will trigger the new Fall Detection feature, which would prompt users to send a SOS notification up to four pre-designated contacts.

The new Galaxy Watch Active2 update also brings numerous improvements to on-watch communication features. These include emoji and image support, a new chat history interface, and the ability that allows users to reply messages with predetermined responses via Smart Reply. Other new additions include the ability to capture scrolling screenshots, instant access and control to music playlists saved on the user’s smartphone, and seamless image transfer between the two connected devices.

Users are also required to have the latest version of the Galaxy Wearable app and the Watch Active2 plugin when it is made available. However, the company did not mention when the software update will be released but said that it will be available soon.
