Following the Apple Card and Huawei Card, it looks like Google may be taking another stab at the whole card business too. According to TechCrunch, the internet search giant is developing its own physical and virtual debit cards. The card will also be co-branded with other partners, of which CITI and Stanford Federal Credit Union were named.
The Google card will also be integrated into the Google Pay app when it gets released. Right now, the app only serves to hold a traditionally issued card, similar to the way Samsung Pay works.
We mentioned earlier that Google is making another attempt at cards. This is because this isn’t actually the company’s first venture in making one. Back in 2013, the company came up with the Wallet debit card, but it was scrapped in 2016. But all things considered, this new iteration is a lot more feature-complete compared to the company’s previous try.
While Google did not deny that it’s indeed coming up with the card, it did not mention when it will be officially out. And as with many of the internet search giant’s projects, whether or not this will make its way to our shores is another question entirely.
