Sony had recently announced a new accessory for the PlayStation Dual Shock 4 controller which adds two customisable back paddle buttons. The controller’s add-on accessory is called the Back Button Attachment and is slated to be released next year.
The Back Button features two back paddle buttons can map up to 16 different commands, and an OLED display that provides real time information around button assignments. It also has a dedicated button allows you to quickly remap the back button inputs on the fly, without needing to jump from menu to menu when in any game. From there, you can save and choose up to three different profiles for use in various games as well.
According to Sony, the accessory is built with the ergonomics of the Dual Shock 4 controller in mind, therefore it will not hinder your experience in any way with the device attached. A headset pass-through is also present for connecting any 3.5mm wired headphones or earphones to the controller. The company also claims that the Back Button Attachment supports current and upcoming PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR titles.
Undeniably, it is unusual for Sony to release a new accessory for the PS4 knowing that the next-gen PlayStation 5 is already planned for release in late 2020. However, it does seem to suggest the possibility of this accessory to also support the Dual Shock 5 as well – if its features are not already incorporated into the new controller’s standard design.
The Back Button Attachment for the Dual Shock 4 is priced at US$30 (~RM125) and is scheduled for release in the United States on 23 January 2020. However, a global release has not been announced just yet.
