Just in case you thought there weren’t enough cryptocurrencies going around, there’s a new one now. Philippine boxer Manny Pacquiao has launched his own cryptocurrency, known simply as Pac. It will be listed on Singapore’s Global Crypto Offering Exchange (GCOX).
The purchase of Pac tokens will reportedly allow fans to buy merchandise and interact with Pacquiao on social media. Some of the merchandise may include Pacquiao’s music albums, as Reuters reports that he also does covers of love songs.
Reuters also reports that Pac is the first of its kind, being the first cryptocurrency by a celebrity. English football legend Michael Owen is also listed as a private investor of Pac. Owen himself is also indicated as planning to launch his own cryptocurrency with the GCOX.
It looks like celebrities are also jumping on the cryptocurrency bandwagon. Being one that isn’t launched by a big tech company in the US, it likely won’t face as much resistance as Facebook’s Libra.
