Energizer Power Max 18000mAh Phone Hands On: Behold The Thickness

Massive industry shows such as Mobile World Congress attract plenty of people from all corners of the industry. Hence, it is not surprising to see out of ordinary products at MWC but some were quite extraordinary to the extent you would be asking yourselves: can it be even real?

If that was the question that popped up in your mind a few weeks ago when the news of this phone made its way through the pipeline, let me assure you that the 18000mAh Energizer Power Max P18K Pop is as real as it can be.

Side by side: Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus and Energizer Power Max 18K Pop.

Some of our readers have guessed at that time that the phone would be quite thick and it turns out that they are right indeed. According to the specs sheet provided by Avenir Telecom, the very company that is responsible for the creation of Power Max P18K Pop and other Energizer-licensed phones, the device has a thickness of 18mm.

The company didn’t state the actual weight of the device, but it is indeed quite hefty when I held it on my hand. While I visited Avenir’s MWC booth expecting to see a rough-looking pre-production device but surprisingly, it turns out to be in presentable condition; at least for the exterior part of the phone.

The dark blue finish of the Power Max P18K Pop made it looks rather neat while the glass cover on its back and minimal display bezels provide a premium feel to it. Its motorized dual-selfie cameras add a little bit of sophistication vibe to the phone.

That being said, the camera on the test unit that I briefly tried sometimes refuses to come out although it is perfectly understandable for a showcase device that has been tested by thousands of people throughout the day.

When it comes to the software side of the phone though, it looks quite bare at the moment. Nevertheless, it is still quite pleasant to see that the Power Max P18K Pop is running on Android Pie 9.0 rather than some outdated version of Android.

Aside from the 18000mAh battery which takes around eight hours to be fully charged and able to last around a week with a single charge, the Power Max P18K Pop is also equipped with 6.2-inch Full HD+ display and powered by MediaTek Helio P70. It also said to come standard with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage with support for microSD of up to 128GB.

Alongside the pop-up selfie camera module which features 16MP and 2MP sensors, the phone also carries a triple camera system on its back that is equipped with 12MP, 5MP, and 2MP sensors. Another interesting thing to note about the Power Max P18K pop is also the fact that the phone’s fingerprint scanner has been integrated with its power button.

Scheduled to be out in June 2019, I was informed by the staff at Avenir’s booth that the Energizer Power Max P18K Pop will carry a price tag of USD 599 (about RM 2435) although some earlier reports have stated that it will go for EU 599 (~RM 2765). Regardless of that, I reckoned that this unusual phone is certainly made for users out there that have equally unusual needs as well.
