Sony has a penchant for creating and implementing some rather eccentric camera technology into its mobile devices, such as the 3D Creator app that allows you to scan your face and make it an avatar. This year, the brand decided to showcase its new DepthSense 3D camera technology, which you can see in action in the video below.
Based on the video, it seems that the DepthSense 3D camera technology is using TOF (Time of Flight) technology, which is what enables the little girl in the video create those light paintings in AR (Augmented Reality) mode for her father. The video also goes on to showcase the other applications of the technology, including sending messages, and modified photos and videos.
Interestingly enough, and if you pay close attention, the smartphone being used in the demo video doesn’t look anything like an Xperia smartphone. But a rather generic looking iPhone look alike.

On that note, it does look like the technology could make its way over to Sony’s next flagship smartphone, the Xperia XZ4, before ultimately finding its way down into the software of older generation Xperia flagship models. Guess we’ll just have to wait until MWC 2019 to see if Sony will debut the camera technology, as well as its next flagship/
