Blizzard Revives Battle.net Brand That You Didn’t Realise Was Gone

Blizzard Entertainment has announced that it is reviving the Battle.net brand. Not that anyone noticed it was gone, since the company didn’t actually stop using the iconic b.net name.

The original plan was to restructure Battle.net and rename it into the Blizzard Launcher. This would be the same Battle.net launcher that current exists, but also include additional plugins for social media and streaming functions. In all, it was a name change that didn’t affect anything else.

However, things became a little muddied after the announcement that Destiny 2 would be hosted on Battle.net. A name that was supposedly dead and relegated to the history section on Wikipedia.

It would appear now that Blizzard has admitted that trying to move away from the brand was a mistake. Instead, it will be adding the “Blizzard” branding to the name and move forward with the service being called Blizzard Battle.net.

In any case, people will still end up calling it whatever they feel like. It’s not like the name is particularly prominent in the app launcher, and the website URL is still the same.
