Given the amount of publicity and preparation that being done for the event, it is almost impossible not to ignore the fact that Kuala Lumpur will be hosting SEA Games 2017 later this month. Hence, some drone enthusiasts out there might have planned to take this opportunity to capture footage during the event.
If you are planning to do, we have bad news for you then: Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) has prohibited any drone usages at all SEA Games venues. This is because the authorities believe that excessive drone presence at the event might poses security risks to both spectators and participating athletes.
That being said, certain individuals and organizations such as media might able to obtain permission from the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) to fly their drones during SEA Games. Even then, those who already received DCA’s approvals are still required to inform their plans to RMP’s Air Wing Unit.
Since drones are becoming more popular among consumers in Malaysia, we are not surprised that authorities decided to impose a no-fly policy for drones during SEA Games due to safety reasons. After all, one wrong move could lead to a massive disaster especially at large-scale event that is expected to attract so many spectators.
