HMD Global’s refreshed Nokia 3310 has clearly struck a chord with those who are the first in the world to have seen it. At the experiential zone of the press event, the new edition of the “most-memed” phone has gone through its first major stress test – from those who are tasked with writing about it.
As journalists from around the world shoved each other to get to spend some time with a device smaller than the palm of their hands, the 3310 ends up suffering more than the journalists being shoved themselves.
Of course, the damage is purely cosmetic – we don’t doubt the legendary durability of the 3310 is recreated here in the 2017 edition. But, from the devices at the experience zone show, the phone’s low 49 euro price tag is reflected in the quality of the device. The glossy coloured models appear especially susceptible; the matte variants, like the OG 3310, appear to withstand abuse better.
