Did you know that you are actually able to download and use Windows 10 right now prior to its release next month? That’s right, you can indeed do so through a special initiative by Microsoft called the Windows Insider Program.
In collaboration with Microsoft Malaysia, here’s another reason for you to check out Windows 10 through Windows Insider Program: a chance to win yourself a fully-kitted Microsoft Surface 3! For those who are not familiar with the Windows Insider Program, it’s the first initiative of its kind in Microsoft’s Windows history as it allows members of the public to be involved in the development of Windows 10. By getting involved, we mean that users are able to give their feedback regarding the new operating system directly to the Windows 10 team over at Microsoft which would allow them to tweak or add new features into the operating system based on those feedback.
To be released on 29 July as a free upgrade for qualified existing Windows 7 and 8.1 devices as well as pre-installed in new PCs, the new Windows 10 promises the same feel that millions of Windows users throughout the world are already familiar with – although with a new look as well as plenty of new features. These features include the integration of the Cortana personal digital assistant, the new Microsoft Edge browser, the ability to switch between touch-optimized interface and desktop environment via Windows Continuum, multiple desktops, universal Windows apps, DirectX 12, and many more.

As for the contest itself, starting from next Monday and for the next four weeks, we will be announcing a contest theme – each week will be different, but the mechanics are the same: in 100 words or less, submit your experience using Windows 10 in the most creative manner. Entries can only be submitted via a Facebook or Instagram post with an equally creative image of your choice, and your caption should include the hashtag #MYWindows10Story.
Each week, Microsoft Malaysia will be selecting three winners, and one weekly winner will not only win a Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop set worth RM487, they will also qualify for the Final Challenge, where they will have a 1 in 4 chance of winning the Microsoft Surface 3 package. The other two weekly winners each week will receive a Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse worth RM232 each.
The mechanics of the Final Challenge will be revealed once all four weekly contests have been completed to ensure all four contestants will have an equal chance of preparing. The winner of the Final Challenge will receive a Microsoft Surface 3 (128GB, 4GB RAM) worth RM2,389 as well as a Surface 3 Type Cover worth RM479 and a Surface 3 Pen worth RM189.
Of course, this contest is bound to certain terms and conditions as stated below:
- All entries are deemed valid only if it includes the hashtag #MYWindows10Story.
- Multiple entries are accepted, but each should have a unique image and caption. Winning entries will be judged on relevance, creativity and ideas that best describe the Windows 10 experience.
- This contest is only open to participants currently residing in Malaysia.
- Selection of winners will be based solely on Lowyat.NET/Microsoft Malaysia’s discretion, and are final.
- Family members or relatives of staff at Lowyat MSC and Microsoft Malaysia are not eligible to enter.
- Winners will be contacted via email or telephone, and an announcement post may be published on Lowyat.NET’s front page or social media channels.
- Winners will be required to collect their prizes from Lowyat.NET’s office in Kuala Lumpur.
- By submitting an entry, participants agree to transfer ownership of the images and captions to Microsoft Malaysia, which may use them for marketing purposes.
Even though the first theme for this contest will only be revealed next week, it is now the perfect time to get yourself familiarize with Windows 10. Do note that this is a pre-release version of the operating system which means that some bugs might likely appear.
