In addition to all the new apps just uploaded onto the Google Play Store for the new HTC One (M8), it appears HTC has also virtually confirmed that a Google Play Edition of the new HTC One will also be released in the future.
Last year, HTC and Samsung made a surprising move to announce Google Play Edition variants of their flagship smartphones, the HTC One and the Galaxy S4. Essentially, these devices will come preloaded with almost-stock Android with the exception of some apps. It was meant to appeal to the many, many Android users who preferred their Android devices in vanilla Android, but prefer not to get a Nexus device.
The Google Play Edition (GPE) of the new HTC One is virtually confirmed by HTC itself, via a description in one of its recently uploaded apps, HTC Gallery. A sentence in the description reads:
Support for HTC One(M8) Google Play Edition is limited to HTC Photo Edit.
The only question for now, of course, is when this HTC One (M8) GPE will be available, and if it will be a similarly limited release for very few countries.
