Sony’s A7 camera was the world’s first full-frame interchangeable lens mirrorless camera, and this RM4999 camera was perhaps one of the best cameras in the business last year. Naturally, Sony made it better one year later, with the release of the new A7 II.

Fortunately, Sony didn’t touch the essentials, such as the 24MP full-frame sensor. What it did focus on was to improve on some of the few shortcomings from the original A7. For instance, the autofocus has now been tweaked to make it 30% faster, while the body has also been slightly redesigned to have a better grip, as well as feature a DSLR-style front dial.

The main improvement on the A7 II, however, is with the introduction of a 5-axis stabilisation system within the body – the first Sony full-frame camera to have one, and only the second in the world after the 2012 Olympus OM-D E-M5. With the new stabilisation system on board, low-light performance is significantly boosted as it allows for longer exposure times.

The Sony A7 II will first be released on December 5 in Japan only at a retail price of 190,000 Yen (about RM5430). There’s no announcements on any international release yet, but we’re pretty sure that should follow in the coming weeks.
