Far Cry 4 PC Players Accidentally Revealed They Pirated the Game

People who are playing Far Cry 4 on the PC have complained that there is no method to adjust the Field of View (FOV) in the game. Little did they know, the update with the added FOV option was included in the day one patch. Those who did not receive the patch had most probably pirated the game.

Alex Hutchinson, the Creative Director of Ubisoft Montreal, wrote a message to these players to address the “FOV issue” on his Twitter account.

PC players! If you're online complaining about the lack of FOV control … You pirated the game.

— Alex Hutchinson (@BangBangClick) November 18, 2014

This is not the first time a game developer has used a similar method to catch players who pirate their game. One of the most famous instance of this anti-piracy measure is the “drunk camera” for GTA IV. After playing for some time, the camera would wobble excessively as if the character is drunk in the game, which renders the game unplayable.

Far Cry 4 has been well-received so far by players, but the game still faced several issues at launch. The PC version has been reported to be crashing occasionally, while the PS3 version can have its save files corrupted if Far Cry 3 saves are present on the same machine. Ubisoft Montreal has said that fixes for these issues are in the works.

Far Cry 4 is now available for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC.
