#Gapgate: The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Has Its Own Manufacturing Issues Too

Still harping on about Bendgate? That’s going out of style, as another major smartphone is facing build quality issues of its own. Say hello to #Gapgate, where some users of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 are reporting that there is a visible gap between the screen and side bezel.

Released in South Korea recently, some early adopters are finding a rather disconcerting gap between the Note 4’s screen and side bezel – big enough to actually slide a business card, even. The issue appears to affect the Exynos-powered variant of the Galaxy Note 4, with a US tech blog reporting that the Snapdragon-powered variant in the US does not have this issue.

It is particularly worrying that there exists a gap as large as what is reported to be as thick as a business card or two sheets of A4 paper. The presence of such a gap will not only allow water and moisture to seep in, but also dust particles that may enter the Note 4’s circuit boards – either way, that’s not something one would expect from a premium-priced flagship smartphone.

At the moment, Samsung has not officially confirmed nor describe the severity of the issue, since the device is only available in South Korea for now. Given that Malaysia may be getting the Exynos variant of the Galaxy Note 4, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the issue for further developments.
