After some feedback from the last camera test, we decided to do one pitting the 2 most talked about flagship phones to the test against each other in a side by side photo comparison! Both cameras were shot at full auto and the S5 pictures were cropped according to the lower resolution M8’s crop in mind and so the S5 will be higher resolution than the M8. Click each of the images to view 100% resolution.
The image for the One M8 is always at the TOP and the Galaxy S5 will be the one at the BOTTOM

1) LED Artificial Light

Personally I believe that the M8 over contrasted this picture and while the S5 is a touch under contrasted with the blacks totally not crushed I’d prefer it to not being able to discern from the background.
2) Indoor Low Light

While the S5 has done a great job with exposure, I think the AUTO ISO has done it a disservice here by softening up the details. The One M8 has done a great job with retaining the details, even at 4MP.
3) Low Light Portrait Flash On

This was a tough call. At the end of the day, while the M8 did very well, I think the S5 did give a more true to life representation for colour. Also the detail is a lot better resolved from the S5
4) Warm Light, Macro

This one was purely how the AWB handled the colour of the light. The M8 rendered a more true to life scene than the S5.
5) Landscape Natural Light (Haze Filter)

No question, the colour balance is way off with the M8 here.
6) Colour Representation, Warm Lighting

This is quite interesting. From this test it convinces me that the over contrast and saturation hinders what could be a wonderful camera from the M8. If you notice the “rotting flesh” colour and the “flash gitz yellow” are different in both, the S5 rendered it more accurately.
7) Macro

This one was tight, but I like the way the M8 rendered this, right down to accuracy and detail.
8) Moving Subject

I believe that this one comes down to the motion blur of the moving fan and once again the contrast of the scene.
