Computex 2013: Booth Spotlight – Apacer

Next up for our booth spotlights, we have memory giants, Apacer who were kind enough to have us despite being super crowded throughout the day. Apacer has been a mainstay in the Taiwanese hardware market even through the great memory crisis of a couple of years back. Apacer has grown consistently from strength to strength and this year at Computex, they have shown some very interesting innovations for both the consumer and industrial segments of the market.

Starting at the consumer range, Apacer have shown off what is probably one of the first mobile USB devices, instantly adding up to 16GB to your android device for all the movies and music you could want without having to bog down your phone. Coming in different designs like the Candy Crush inspired line or the cute Animals line, it will only be a matter of time until these hit the primetime. On top of that, Apacer is also known for having very interesting designs for their regular USB drives, the ones of note are designed after natural elements, bamboo and trees namely.

On the consumer DRAM segment, Apacer have brought their ARES and new series THUNDERBIRD out to play. The Ares is not new per se, however the unit on display was their first 32GB kit for the Ares line. As for the Thunderbird, Apacer focused on making the kit one of the most overclockable sets for enthusiasts.

Now on the industrial side of things is where Apacer showed some very interesting things. First up was their line of SSDs which was called the “Combo Sata Drive” that essentially has 2 SSDs in 1 drive, making Raid 0 or Raid 1 an option within 1 drive. With a Raid 0 setup, you will be getting speeds of about 1,000MB/s Sequential Read and about 875MB/s Sequential Read. Most of Apacers drives also come with their Core Eraser technology, a 3 tiered erase option for varying levels of security. Class 1 is your usual erase and Class 3 will be Military grade erasing. Lastly they also have CoreDestroyer technology which will let you completely render the hard drive unusable after an erase command.

Lastly Apacer also have the option to protect your drives from the harshest of conditions with protection like Moulding and nano coating. This is an extra service what will render your drive (even when you have no housing) water tight. We didn’t believe it till we saw it.

This year, Apacer have focused on a balance between High Speed Operation, Safety and Stability as well as interesting design across the board and for this, that is why they will be around for a while to come.
