Trust the Japanese to come out with these kind of things. A Japanese carrier, Willcom, has announced the Phone Strap 2 WX06A, which has been christened “the world’s smallest and lightest phone”. At 32 x 70 x 10.7mm and a mere 32 grams, it is actually marginally thicker than the phone it replaces, the Phone Strap.

Like the name suggests, the Phone Strap 2 is intended to be a companion device to the user’s significantly larger phone or tablet, much like HTC’s Mini, the bundled “companion phone” to the HTC Butterfly. So what does a phone so small pack? The Phone Strap 2 has a 1-inch display and has basic calling, text and email functions. It is rated for 2 hours of talk time or 12 days of standby. This Japan-only device will be available in white, black or pink, later this year.
