Good news to all iOS users who feel like throwing your device away because of Apple Maps, Nokia’s new mapping service called Here is finally here to save the day. Last week, Nokia unveiled Here for browsers and now, you can download the app on your Apple App Store for free.
We haven’t really taken Nokia Here for a spin yet, but initial hands on for the new iOS app looks pretty good. In fact, if you’ve been waiting and waiting for Google to make offline maps available for our region, wait no more because it’s already available on Here. You can select a section to save onto your iOS device and access them anytime even if you do not have any internet connection. This is especially useful if you’re using a Wi-Fi only iPad or an iPod Touch and you wish to travel somewhere using Here. The down side is when offline, even if you have a saved map, you will not be able to search for places so all navigation would have to be done manually.
Still missing is a live traffic view that I’m hoping Nokia would implement as quickly as possible. There’s no navigation for driving but if you are walking, Here comes with step-by-step voice-guided walk navigation. Download Here from iTunes and let us know if you like it.
