Suunto has officially launched its latest smartwatch, the Run 2, in Malaysia. Like its predecessor, which debuted last year, the new wearable is designed with runners in mind, featuring an exceptionally lightweight build that keeps it comfortable and unobtrusive during runs.
Run 2 Specs
We weren’t kidding when we said the watch is designed to be lightweight. According to the official press release, the Run 2 weighs just 35g, making it 1g lighter than its predecessor. That said, the new wearable is marginally thicker, measuring 11.7mm compared to 11.5mm on last year’s model.
According to the official press release, the Suunto Run 2 retains the same 1.32-inch AMOLED display as its predecessor. The international spec sheet adds that the panel has a 466 x 466-pixel resolution, making the display largely unchanged from the original model. The key upgrade, however, is its peak brightness, which has increased to 2,000 nits.
The body, meanwhile, sports a stainless steel bezel and Gorilla Glass for added protection. In terms of water resistance, Suunto says the wearable can withstand 5 ATM of pressure.
In terms of battery, the company says that the wearable can last for up to “10 days of everyday use with training” and up to 24 hours of dual-band GNSS. However, the official document says that actual battery life may vary depending on settings, usage, and operating conditions.
Suunto’s new Run 2 running watch features a redesigned 12-channel wrist heart rate sensor, housed behind 2.5D curved sensor glass. The company says this improves heart rate accuracy across different running intensities, from recovery runs to high-intensity intervals and races.
For location tracking, the Run 2 supports dual-band GNSS across GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou and QZSS. It tracks both L1 and L5 signals to improve positioning, distance and pace accuracy.
Software And Training Programmes
The Suunto Run 2 also comes with a Training Plan, which turns targets such as a sub-four-hour marathon into individual workouts, including easy runs, intervals and long runs. Meanwhile, Its Training Zone combines training load, HRV, sleep and recovery data in one place, while dedicated running modes cover daily training, speed work and races. Marathon Mode adds Ghost Runner and other race-focused tools.
The watch also supports free worldwide offline maps, allowing runners to view routes, streets and surroundings directly from the watch without an internet connection. Users can also store songs on the Run 2 watch and play them through wireless headphones.
Suunto Smart Heart Rate Belt 2
Coinciding with the launch, the company also released the new Smart Heart Rate Belt 2. The wearable is designed for endurance athletes who train by intensity. According to the official press release, it can deliver “accurate exercise heart rate and high-resolution beat-to-beat R-R interval data across road running, trail running, cycling, triathlon, and the winter and mountain sports”.
The wearable does this with the help of an ECG-based detection to improve heart rate and R-R interval measurements, while its redesigned chest strap helps reduce ESD noise. This provides more consistent data during intervals and longer efforts, which can also be used by Suunto ZoneSense to assess exercise intensity. ZoneSense requires a compatible Suunto watch.
The Suunto Smart Heart Rate Belt 2 features a compact transmitter and soft strap with silicone grips to keep it securely in place during long sessions. It also offers around 460 hours of battery life, or so the company claims.
In terms of connectivity, Suunto says it can pair to up to three devices at once over a protected Bluetooth connection. Some example devices the company mentioned include the user’s smartphone, laptop, and even a bike computer.
Pricing And Availability
Suunto says the Run 2 will be available in Malaysia through its official and authorised stores from 1 October, with 4GB and 64GB variants priced at RM1,549 and RM1,699 respectively. It comes in All Black, Feather Gold and Aloe Green colourways. Meanwhile, the Suunto
Smart Heart Rate Belt 2 will also go on sale on the same date for RM599. Both products will be available through the brand’s website and official stores on Shopee, TikTok, and Lazada.
